Achievements & Activities
Craddock Trophy
In June 2024, I was awarded the Craddock Trophy, which is given to the Grade 11 St. George’s School student who excels in all aspects of school-related activities and programming. I’m particularly proud of this achievement because of the many hours I dedicated to the Saints Community Engagement Portfolio, which aims to strengthen ties between the school and our local community. This year, I spearheaded a day of outdoor music performed by Saints students to foster holiday spirit in the immediate neighborhood. I also helped collect data about how to better invite the neighborhood into the experience of the annual Saints May Fair, and I will be helping implement that plan during the 2024-2025 school year. Finally, after being selected to attend with CAIS Student Leadership Conference in April 2023, I was recently named to the exploratory committee aiming to bring the conference to St. George’s School in Spring 2025
AP Comparative Government and Politics Prize
In May 2024, I was selected as the one Grade 11 or 12 recipient of this prize, which is awarded to the student who is most willing to engage with the subject matter. Given my interest in international relations and foreign policy, I was beyond honored to win this award.
Stiftelsen Stipendiefonden för Svensk Utlandsungdom scholarship
In Spring 2023, I was awarded a scholarship by the Swedish government to return to Sweden and study intensive Swedish at Sigtunaskolan Humanistiska Läroverket, a boarding school outside Stockholm. I also use my Swedish while working at Mavi Restaurang, Hotell och Konferens, where I am a server during the summer season.
Rowing Team Outreach
It’s a great honor and a lot of fun to share my love of rowing with younger athletes. That’s why I recently helped revive the tradition of varsity rowers attending a Junior School assembly to explain to students in grades 1-7 about the rowing opportunities at the Senior School and answer their questions. I also contributed to the rowing handbook that is distributed to all rowing parents so that they have an overview of the team and the sport.
Model United Nations
I’ve been involved in Model UN since Grade 7 and now serve on staff for both VMUN and CAHSMUN. For the February 2024 VMUN conference, I served as the chair of the United Nations Human Rights Council. In April 2024 at CAHSMUN, I served as the chair of the World Health Organization. During the 2024-2025 school year, I will be the Director of the European Parliament at VMUN. In May 2024, I combined knowledge learned at Model UN with content I researched for AP Comparative Government and Politics to create a final presentation wherein I played both a newscaster and an expert on Sweden’s recent successful application to NATO and the shift it marked in Sweden’s foreign policy strategy.
About
My name is Oliver Sjöholm
I’m a highly motivated student and athlete committed to pursuing rowing at a competitive collegiate level.
At present, I row for the varsity team at St. George’s School in Vancouver, British Columbia, where I compete in races around the Pacific Northwest and at the Canadian Secondary School Rowing Association National Championship (CSSRA). I'm currently entering Grade 12 and will graduate in June 2025.
As a student, I’m interested in pursuing a degree in International Relations and Political Science at a liberal arts institution. I’m an active member of my school’s Model United Nations team, where I serve on the staff of the largest student-run Model UN conference in North America. My teachers and coaches both describe me as driven and focused. I’m also lively and love a good conversation about World Cup soccer or Formula 1 racing.
On a personal note: I’m an accomplished competitive sailor and compete on a Laser Radial team at my local sailing center, plus a former competitive ski racer. I’m also interested in travel/street photography and maintain an active Instagram account (@O.snapsss), where I capture my adventures and interests in single, still-life frames.
Finally, I’m bilingual in Swedish and English.
